If any of you have paid attention to any of my previous discussions about my Call of Duty experiences over the years, you know I am not a fan of Treyarch. This is 100% based on my experience with gameplay and the storyline of the campaign. I have no financial or personal interest in either of the developers of the COD franchise (Infinity Ward and TreyArch.)
Simply put, Black Ops II is boring me to tears. I was smart enough not to run out and buy the game with my previous issues with TreyArch games. So I went the Game Fly route to get my hands on it. Of late I have run through “Hitman: Absolution” and “Assassin’s Creed 3” and not had a hard time getting into the stories, and able to tolerate the kinks in the game play. AC3 in particular seemed like it was rushed out the door far too fast with the falling through the world until you just quit the game and restart (among others.) Hitman moved like most of them do with my biggest complaint being too little sniper work.
BO-II on the other hand seems like they were more focused on getting people to buy it and the subscription which is basically the cost of a second game. Ok, I can deal with that. I can’t tolerate the bullets curving around corners, spray and pray guns being more accurate than others, the same issue with TERRIBLE re-spawning locations (ie. in the line of fire of an enemy), and that is just the multi-player online.
The storyline? The voicing of the characters is confusing. So much sounds like the same guy trying to change his accent (poorly) and tone. Let’s not neglect the mistake of thinking that more profanity makes for an edgier story. It doesn’t.
So now on to Zombies… stale, boring, re-heated turkey from Thanksgiving.
I was quite sure that there was a statement released that the CoD franchise would be handed over to either @InfinityWard or @TreyArch. Seems exploiting the customer base and taking profits as fast as possible has become the driving factor. It is a shame, since putting some real resources into the game to have a stronger engine, better AI, and a less exploitable multi-player environment.
Rating? It has to be in 3 parts then all together.
Campaign: 5/10
Multi-player: 7/10
Zombies: 6/10
Overall CoD Spec Ops II: 6/10 (Boo)
